SBIC Program Overview

The SBIC Program was created by Congress in 1958 to bridge the gap between entrepreneurs' need for capital and traditional financing sources. It is a multi-billion dollar, government-sponsored "fund of funds" that invests long term capital in privately owned and managed investment firms (licensees). The SBIC Program is a public-private partnership administered by the Investment Division, U.S. Small Business Administration.
