U.S. Department of Labor Updates E-VETS Advisor

A U.S. Department of Labor (DOL) website- elaws (Employment Laws Assistance for Workers and Small Businesses) – recently updated its e-VETS Advisor.  This Advisor assists Veterans, Service Members and their families and caregivers to quickly and easily navigate Web-based information on a variety of topics, including education, job training and employment.  The e-VETS Advisor was developed by the U.S. Department of Labor’s Veterans Employment and Training Service (VETS).

Additional resources on the elaws website include the Veterans’ Preference Advisor and the Uniformed Services Employment and Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA) Advisor.  The Veterans’ Preference Advisor allows veterans to examine the preferences for which they might be entitled in regard to federal jobs.  The USERRA Advisor helps veterans understand employee eligibility and job entitlements, employer obligations, benefits and remedies under the Act.  The law is intended to encourage non-career uniformed service so that America can enjoy the protection of those services, staffed by qualified people, while maintaining a balance with the needs of private and public employers who also depend on these same individuals.

The elaws Advisors are one of a number of compliance assistance tools developed to further DOL’s dedication to provide clear, accurate and easy-to-access assistance for employers, and protect the wages, health benefits, retirement security, safety and health of America’s workforce.  The elaws Advisors offer information on topics such as pay overtime, workplace poster requirements, health benefits, reemployment rights for uniformed service members, and federal contractor compliance.  Please visit www.dol/gov/elaws.
