KANSAS CITY – Patricia Brown-Dixon, Region 7 Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration, announced today that Roderick M. Cox has been hired as the district director for the SBA’s Kansas City District Office.

Cox is responsible for the management and delivery of the SBA’s programs and services in 89 counties served by the Kansas City district office and Springfield branch office; 28 in eastern Kansas and 61 in western Missouri.  He will also oversee the SBA grant-funded counseling and training resource partners in the district, which include SCORE, the Women’s Business Center and Small Business Development Centers (SBDCs) in the territory.

“We are very excited that Rod has joined the SBA family.  His military background includes extensive successful senior-level experience developing, communicating, and implementing organizational strategies, visions, and directions.  Rod’s challenge will be to get people to think of SBA whenever they think of small business,” said Brown-Dixon.

Before joining SBA, Cox served as an officer in the United States Army for 31 years, retiring at the rank of colonel.  His numerous Joint and Combined operations both in the United States and overseas included combat, peacekeeping, and humanitarian duties in the Middle East, Africa, Southeast Europe, Central Asia and the Far East. He is a graduate of the United States Army War College, the National Defense University’s Armed Forces Staff College, and the United States Army Command and General Staff College.  He received both B.A. and M.A. degrees from the University of Missouri at Columbia and a Master of Strategic Studies degree from the United States Army War College.

Civic organizations include life membership in the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Fort Leavenworth Historical Society, the Friends of the Frontier Army Museum, and Delta Sigma Pi International Business Fraternity.  He is an endowed life member of the University of Missouri Alumni Association, an inducted honoree of the Fort Zumwalt High School (O’Fallon, Missouri) Hall of Fame, a member of the American Legion and the First Presbyterian Church of Leavenworth.
