MIAMI - The City of Miami and the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) signed a Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) on July 24, in the Mayor's Conference Room at City Hall.

The SAM agreement's goal is to develop and foster mutual understanding, and renew the working relationship between the City of Miami and the SBA. This agreement will promote small business development and expansion.

"Small businesses of all different sizes are the backbone of our local economy. We are recommitting to our relationship with the SBA to continue to get the word out to leverage and connect our small businesses to these valuable resources. When our small businesses grow, so does our City" said Mayor Tomas Regalado.

The SAM, which will remain in effect for two years, was signed by City of Miami Mayor Tomas Regalado and SBA South Florida District Director Francisco Marrero.

"SBA exists to provide counseling, small business capital and government contracting opportunities," said SBA South Florida District Director Francisco "Pancho" Marrero. "SBA looks forward to renewing our efforts with the City of Miami to strengthen our community's small businesses and create jobs."

The SBA South Florida District and its resource partners are actively involved with the City of Miami, providing counseling, access to capital and business expansion through government contracting. More than 20 free or low cost business workshops with Miami's SCORE Chapter are scheduled over the next two months. SBA lending in Miami also continues to be strong. Since October 1, SBA approved more than 170 loans in the city for $66,795,000.
