RX Catering

RX Catering - BAGELS TO BRUNCH & BEYOND

RX CATERING

BAGELS TO BRUNCH & BEYOND

RX Catering, located on the corner of Capitol and Chester, is at the hub of the catering district in downtown Little Rock. Since 1994, owner Jay Ramsey has been an outstanding fixture in the restaurant and catering business. That year he and business partner Bill Eichhorn started New York Bagel Shop with an SBA guaranteed financing through Stillwater National Bank in Oklahoma. SBA’s SCORE Business Counselors advised the partners on choosing the optimal location to attract customers. Soon customers were requesting more than just bagels, and the company expanded into the lunch business, first with sandwiches and then with hot meals. Jay bought out his partner, and in 2005 transformed the business into RX Catering. The company’s motto, “Just What the Doctor Ordered,” reflected the popularity of the business with medical professionals and sales representatives. The business expanded and quickly became successful. Sensing that this type of business would work well in other cities, Jay formed a partnership to franchise RX Catering. There are now five locations in addition to Little Rock—Baltimore, Md.; Birmingham, Ala.; Houston, Texas; upstate South Carolina, and Alexandria, Va. RX Catering has menus to suit lunches, small meetings and major events. Some customers, including the Arkansas State Chamber of Commerce, take advantage of all of these options. The State Chamber uses the party menu for its yearly open house for the Arkansas Legislature and the lunch menu for various in-house meetings. RX Catering consistently wins the Best of the Best Awards in the Restaurant Category for Arkansas Times, the Arkansas Democrat Gazette’s Arkansas Online, and Arkansas Business. As part of community service, RX Catering donates food to Arkansas Children’s Hospital, Canvas Community Church, Our House, and the Little Rock Marathon. Jay says it is his employees that have made the business succeed. “Our people work well together,” he said. “Everyone does the orders.”
