SAN JUAN, PR ---The Puerto Rico and Virgin Islands district office of the U.S. Small Business Administration is soliciting nominations for the 2012 Small Business Person of the Year Award.
The winner will go on to compete for the country’s most prestigious award -- National Small Business Person of the Year. For this award the SBA is seeking companies that have demonstrated staying power, sustained growth, increase in sales, job creation and/or retention, response to adversity, and social responsibility, among other criteria. The winner will be honored next spring at a ceremony in San Juan, and will then be invited to attend the presidentially declared National Small Business Week ceremonies in Washington, D.C.
“Small businesses are the driving force behind our economy,” said SBA District Director José R. Sifontes. “During National Small Business Week we honor and celebrate the achievements of individuals whose contributions keep us moving forward.”
In addition to Small Business Person of the Year nominees, nominations will be accepted in the categories of Small Business Exporter of the Year, SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year, the Jeffrey Butland Family-Owned Business of the Year, and Entrepreneurial Success Award, among many others. Nominations will be accepted from SBA resource partners and lenders, economic development organizations, elected officials and individuals in Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands. Self-nominations are also allowed.
