Santa Ana, CA – Martha Daniel, President & CEO of Information Management Resources, Inc., (IMRI) has been selected as a Santa Ana District finalist for the 2013 Small Business Person of the Year Award by the U.S. Small Business Administration.  Daniel was nominated for the award by Kathleen Janson, Executive Director of the Janson Group, in recognition of her accomplishments.  According to District Director Adalberto Quijada, “Martha’s story is unique and compelling.  She continues to build upon her success by using it as a platform to reach and mentor others in the community.  For that reason and many more, we’re pleased to recognize her as a Small Business Week finalist.”

IMRI provides technology and engineering services to federal government agencies and commercial clients.  The company is headquartered in Aliso Viejo and maintains offices in San Diego, Calif., Washington, D.C., and Vicksburg, Miss.  Founded in 1992 by Martha Daniel, IMRI is a Service Disabled Veteran, Economically Disadvantaged, Woman-Owned Small Disadvantaged Business ranked in 2012 by Inc. Magazine as one of the fastest growing private companies in America.

The company has successfully delivered more than $100 million in technology and engineering services to clients including U.S. Army, U.S. Navy, Defense Information Systems Agency, U.S. Cyber Command, Department of Veterans Affairs, Department of Homeland Security, NASA, International Paper, Bank of America, Northrop Grumman, Boeing, Lockheed Martin and others.  Over the last three years IMRI has increased staff by nearly 60% and during the last calendar year revenues have grown 46%.

In addition to running IMRI, Daniel serves as President of the Orange County Chapter of the Elite Service Disabled Veteran-Owned Business Network (Elite SDVOB Network), whose mission is to help veterans help themselves.  Ms. Daniel is also an ordained minister of Christ Our Redeemer AME Church in Irvine and mentors women and young girls both spiritually and professionally.

Specific criteria under which Daniel’s nomination was reviewed include the following:

  • Staying Power – Established in 1992, IMRI was ranked in 2012 as one of the fastest growing private companies in America and has delivered more than $100 million in services to its clients
  • Growth in Number of Employees - Over the last three years, IMRI has increased its staff from 42 individuals in 2010 to 71 employees in 2012
  • Increase in Sales – IMRI has achieved exceptional year-over-year growth in spite of a down economy, growing its federal customer base
  • Innovativeness – IMRI has been involved in solving difficult emerging technology issues such as the Year 2000 crisis, in which IMRI was recognized nationally as the leader in the conversion, modification, and modernization of legacy systems; today IMRI addresses significant challenges such as cyber security for its clients
  • Response to Adversity – In 2005, as IMRI’s commercial client base began shrinking rapidly as competitors off-shored their technology services, Daniel made the strategic decision to grow its business in the federal procurement market;  after 5 years of business development, IMRI moved from having one federal government client to twelve and from its revenues being 90% commercial to 97% federal
  • Community Involvement – Daniel serves as the president of the Elite SDVOB Network and is also an ordained minister with Christ Our Redeemer AME Church located in Irvine

Every year since 1963, the President of the United States has issued a proclamation announcing National Small Business Week, which recognizes the critical contributions of America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.  More than half of Americans either own or work for a small business and they create two out of every three new jobs in the U.S. each year.  As part of National Small Business Week, SBA takes the opportunity to highlight the impact of outstanding entrepreneurs, small business owners, and others.  Every day they’re working to grow small business, create 21st century jobs, drive innovation, and increase America’s global competitiveness.  For more information, please visit www.sba.gov/nsbw
