Lily Otieno, President & CEO of Infinity Business Solutions, Selected to Receive Receive Region IX Minority Small Business Champion Award

Owner of management consulting company helps businesses pursue contract opportunities with government, large corporations

SANTA ANA, CA – Lily Otieno, President and CEO of Infinity Business Solutions, Inc., has been selected to receive the SBA’s Minority Small Business Champion of the Year Award.  Otieno was nominated for the award by Peter Sinambal, Past President & Board Member of the Asian Business Association of Orange County (ABAOC) in recognition of her volunteer efforts to help minority-owned businesses access contracts with a variety of government agencies and large businesses.  Otieno, who first won at the District level, went on to secure wins at the State of California and Region IX level, representing the states of California, Arizona, Nevada, Hawaii and Guam.

Otieno, who grew up in Kenya, is a graduate of California State Fullerton with a Master’s of Science degree in Environmental Studies with an emphasis on Policy and Planning.  In 2005, Otieno formed Infinity Business Solutions, a WBENC ® certified woman-owned small business focusing on solutions-based training for both small and large businesses seeking to contract with the banking industry, utilities and government agencies.

Otieno joined ABAOC as a member in 2008 and the following year became secretary of the board.   She advocated for the creation of a business matchmaking workshop to train small businesses how to be successful in securing contracting opportunities, eventually developing and designing the curriculum based of lessons learned during her career.  The purpose of the workshop series was to educate business owners beyond the basic concept of supplier diversity to include practical information such as how to leverage their certifications, market their organizations, activate their capability statements in multiple settings, and how to beat their competition through research.  Some of the participants in this workshop series went on to garner contracts with organizations including the Orange County Transportation Authority, the General Services Administration, USBank, Disney, and Los Angeles World Airports.

In addition to her volunteer work with ABAOC, Otieno is the Chair of the Women’s Business Enterprise Council – West, whose purpose is to educate, network and offer women in business opportunities to get contracts from corporations and public sector agencies.  She also serves as the diversity co-chair for the Women In Transportation – Orange County Chapter, as a member of the Buena Park Chamber of Commerce, and as board secretary for the Boys & Girls Club of Buena Park.

Otieno will be honored alongside other small business owners and champions at the 49th Annual Small Business Week Awards Celebration, hosted by the SBA’s Santa Ana District Office on Tuesday, June 5, 2012 from 11:30am to 2:00pm at the City National Grove of Anaheim.  For information about the event, please contact Doug Dare at (714) 560-7467.  To RSVP, please visit www.49thannualsbwawards.eventbrite.com
