Small business borrowers in the Santa Ana District have a new source for SBA backed financing. SBA's Santa Ana District Office is pleased to announce AmPac TriState CDC can now accept and process applications for Community Advantage loans. The Community Advantage Loan Program was created last year in an effort to expand the points of access small business owners have for getting loans by opening the SBA 7(a) loan guaranty program to “mission-focused” lenders such as Certified Development Companies (CDCs) and Community Development Financial Institutions (CDFIs). Currently only one other mission-focused lender participates in the Community Advantage Program, CDC Small Business Finance.
Through the Community Advantage loan guaranty program, lenders may receive a guarantee of 85% for loans up to $150,000 and 75% guarantee for those greater than $150,000, up to a maximum of $250,000. Use of proceeds and maturity mirror the 7(a) loan program, while the maximum interest rates are higher than Regular 7(a). SBA charges a guarantee fee of 2% on the guaranteed portion of a loan up to $150,000, or 3% on loans greater than $150,000.
Community Advantage lenders will be expected to maintain at least 60% of their SBA loan portfolio in underserved markets, including loans to small businesses in, or that have more than 50 percent of their workforce residing in, low-to-moderate income (LMI) communities; in Empowerment Zones and Enterprise Communities; in HUBZones; start-ups (firms in business less than 2 years); and veteran-owned businesses and those that would be eligible for Patriot Express.
