BOSTON – Jill Tomich, CEO of Ultimate Bootcamp LLC., has been named the 2013 SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year, according to an announcement by Robert H. Nelson, Massachusetts District Director for the U.S. Small Business Administration.
The 2013 SBA Young Entrepreneur of the Year award is presented annually to recognize excellence and innovation within the SBA’s network of young entrepreneurs in Massachusetts. Ms. Tomich was judged on four basic criteria: evidence of success as measured by sales and profits, increased employment opportunities, development and utilization of innovative business methods, and demonstrated entrepreneurial potential for long-term success. Ms. Tomich was nominated by Peter Lavelle, the Chief Operating Officer of Ultimate Bootcamp.
Ms. Tomich founded Ultimate Bootcamp, a fitness company focusing on rigorous month-long training sessions, in 2004. At the time she was working on a career in architecture while also serving as a part-time group fitness instructor at gyms and health clubs. She lacked business experience, but Ms. Tomich trusted the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center Network for help in planning and launching her business, and the SBA’s e200 program for assistance in growing her business. Today, Ultimate Bootcamp is an absolute success, with nearly 40 people on staff providing fitness services for 4,200 New Englanders each year.
“This award is meant to honor the accomplishments of young entrepreneurs like Jill Tomich who channel their energy into taking risks and starting new businesses,” said Nelson. “Massachusetts is known throughout the country for its support of young entrepreneurs and their efforts to drive growth here in the state and around the country. The SBA is proud to recognize such a phenomenal young entrepreneur and hope this award is an inspiration for others.”
Ms. Tomich will be honored at an SBA awards celebration along with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2013 winners in June.
