MIAMI - The U.S. Small Business Administration will sign a Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) with the Melbourne Regional Chamber of East Central Florida, tomorrow, Thursday, Nov.7 during a scheduled breakfast meeting at the Hilton Melbourne Beach Oceanfront.

The purpose of this SAM agreement is to develop and foster mutual understanding and a renewed working relationship between SBA and the Melbourne Regional Chamber to foster small business development and expansion.

"SBA exists to provide counseling, small business capital and government contracting opportunities," said South Florida District Director Francisco "Pancho" Marrero. "SBA looks forward to working with the Melbourne Regional Chamber in strengthening the community's small businesses and create jobs."

“We are delighted to partner our Chamber’s focus on small business with that of the SBA,” said Christine Michaels, president and CEO of the Melbourne Regional Chamber. “Our Small Business Committee provides services to an integral part of our membership, and in fact 74% of our 1,200 members have 10 employees or less. This partnership will enhance what we are able to offer them.”

The SBA South Florida District and its resource partners are actively involved within the city of Melbourne and Brevard County, providing counseling, access to capital and business expansion through government contracting.  In fiscal year 2013 that ended Sept. 30, SBA has approved 45 loans totaling $16,951,200.

SBA South Florida Deputy District Director Jonel Hein and Michaels will sign the SAM which will remain in effect for two years.
