SYRACUSE, N.Y. - The U.S. Small Business Administration honored the 13 participating companies in its Emerging Leaders Initiative (formerly e200) at a graduation ceremony at SUNY ESF on November 6th. The intense program, providing more than 40 hours of advanced management training, has been a collaboration of the SBA Syracuse District Office with CenterState CEO, CNY TDO, City of Syracuse Office of Neighborhood and Business Development, Downtown Committee of Syracuse, Inc., MACNY, Onondaga SBDC, SUNY ESF, Syracuse SCORE, Syracuse University, The Falcone Center, The Tech Garden and the WISE Women’s Business Center.
“With tailored curriculum, limited class size and small mentoring groups, the Emerging Leaders initiative creates an environment for the entrepreneur to take a critical assessment of their business in today’s economy and begin working on the business, not in the business,” said SBA Syracuse District Director Bernard J. Paprocki. “By strengthening these small businesses, I can tell you that Emerging Leaders will affect more than our 13 graduates. The Emerging Leaders experience will continue to impact their companies, employees, customers and communities for months and years from now.”
“This class has allowed me to look at business exactly the way I always wanted to and didn’t know how to. For me, the CEO mentoring groups have proved the most valuable. We get together in small groups bi-weekly to discuss closely and intimately our businesses and our challenges. We help each other understand what we do, what has worked for us and what has not worked. These meetings have allowed us to have a greater understanding of the challenges we all face and identify ways to improve. We’ve already agreed as a group we will continue to meet and help one another even after graduation,” explained 2013 graduate and Brophy Services, Inc. President Eileen Brophy.
SBA announced at the graduation ceremony that Syracuse will host its fourth class of Emerging Leaders in 2014.
