DETROIT - Gerald Moore, Michigan District Director at U.S. Small Business Administration visited DeWitt in Clinton County on October 8th as part of “Countdown to 83 – Helping Small Business Succeed…One County at a Time” campaign.  Moore conducted a press conference with Linda Hundt, owner of Sweetie-licious Bakery Café to highlight how SBA programs have helped her company grow.

The visit marked the final stop of an 83 county tour that Moore began in July, 2011.  During the Statewide Small Business Outreach Tour, he traveled to 15 cities from the Upper Peninsula to Southwest Michigan.  Since then, he has visited with small business owners, economic development organizations, business and community leaders, lenders, and SBA partners in every corner of the state.

“Shortly after arriving at the SBA, I began to realize the rich diversity of the state and its small business community,” said Moore.  “I wanted to learn more about what small business owners need and help them take advantage of the vast resources of the SBA.”

On each of the final ten county stops, Moore participated in press conferences with successful small business owners, highlighting how SBA programs have helped them prosper.  He also conducted roundtables called “Dialogue with the Director” to which he invited members of the business community to share concerns and get connected to the help they need.

“Throughout the tour we’ve heard from business owners, economic development organizations, and government leaders on what’s needed to get our economy moving in the right direction.” said Moore.  “We now offer more opportunities for small business owners access counseling, capital and contracts – the three C;s of the SBA.  As we continue to strive to be relevant and impactful, we will work closely with these communities to ensure they have access to our core services and advocate to create and implement customized programs where needed.”

Moore will continue to visit with the small business community by visiting each region twice a year.  “I want to continue an ongoing dialogue with our constituents – the small business owners that SBA is here to serve,” said Moore.
