WILMINGTON, DE. – The U.S. Small Business Administration announced the selection of John Fleming as deputy district director for the Delaware District Office. In this position, he will help manage delivery of SBA programs and services to small businesses throughout the state.

“I am pleased to welcome John to the Delaware District Office,” said SBA’s Delaware District Director Tony Leta. “His experience and leadership will be a great asset to our team and more importantly to Delaware’s small business community. I look forward to him joining our team and the contributions he will undoubtedly make for the small businesses we serve.”

“Delaware is a great state for small business and I am looking forward to reaching out to our lenders, resource partners and small businesses,” Fleming said.

“In the many roles John has held for the Philadelphia District Office, he has been instrumental in achieving SBA’s mission,” said Fleming’s former supervisor, Philadelphia District Director Dave Dickson. “He has done exceptional work on behalf of small businesses across Eastern Pennsylvania and we all wish him the best of luck in his new position. The promotion is well-deserved.”

Fleming has had a distinguished career with SBA, and has been the recipient of numerous awards.  He served in the Philadelphia District Office since 1992, most recently as lead economic development specialist.

Fleming’s other SBA assignments include Chief Credit Officer and Public Information Officer for SBA’s Philadelphia District Office. Fleming will also continue to serve as a Senior Federal Policy Advisor for the White House Strong Cities, Strong Community Initiative in Chester, Penn., where he leads a team of federal officials to address local challenges.

A native of Springfield, Pennsylvania, he was University College senior class president at Widener University, where he earned his bachelor's degree. Prior to his SBA career, Fleming served as a non-commissioned officer in the United States Marine Corps.
