Worcester, MA – The U.S. Small Business Administration signed a Strategic Alliance Memorandum (SAM) with Massachusetts Manufacturing Extension Partnership, Inc. (MassMEP) at a special ceremony held in Worcester, Massachusetts on August 1, 2013, thereby formalizing a strategic partnership between the two organizations in the state. SBA and MassMEP are joined by a common mission; helping start, maintain, and expand small businesses in Massachusetts.

MassMEP is a non-profit organization that provides services to help manufacturers transform and grow their businesses. From workforce strategies to lean training to supply chain management, the organization delivers a positive, measureable, and sustainable impact on a company’s top and bottom lines. The MEP network, with its direct reach to the state’s manufacturers, has proven to be invaluable to its federal government partners, like SBA, who utilize the network to distribute valuable, cutting-edge information and resources in areas of workforce, technology adoption, environment and energy, and more. MEP also leverages the federal government’s investment in other programs through awareness, education, and collaboration.

The SBA, as a part of the U.S. federal government, works to maintain and strengthen the nation's economy by aiding, counseling, assisting and protecting the interests of small businesses and by helping families and businesses recover from national disasters.

“Our partnership with MassMEP is a huge milestone for the SBA’s Massachusetts District Office. With the signing of this agreement, SBA will be able to help the manufacturing community in Worcester and across the state by giving local manufacturers the tools and resources they need to become successful entrepreneurs,” stated SBA District Director Bob Nelson. He added, “The SBA has been working hard in recent years to broaden its range of partnerships, and we are delighted to join MassMEP in their effort to support an innovative, successful manufacturing base which is the key to higher paying jobs and a higher quality of life in the Commonwealth.”

“MassMEP's strength is in our partnerships and our ability to connect our partner’s services to the manufacturing community,” said MassMEP Director of Operations Jack Healy. “SBA services such as access to capital, business planning and export development are essential growth programs for our next generation of manufacturing clients.”

The SAM signifies a joint effort by MassMEP and SBA to promote small business through education and community outreach. The signed SAM allows both entities to work closer together to ensure manufacturers’ interests are adequately addressed in the state of Massachusetts.
