SBA Recognizes Outstanding Great Lakes Lenders

DETROIT – The U.S. Small Business Administration presented regional lenders awards at the first Great Lakes Lenders Conference today.  The Cleveland, Columbus, Indiana, and Michigan SBA District Offices cosponsored the first ever Great Lakes Lenders Conference which was held in Detroit on August 1st and 2nd.   The event featured nationally recognized experts in SBA lending.  

“We believe that this event is the ideal venue to recognize outstanding lender performance in the three states of Ohio, Indiana, and Michigan,” said Michigan SBA District Director Gerald Moore.  Two SBA districts offices in Ohio and one each in Indiana and Michigan nominated winners in the four categories.  Final selections were selected by the four SBA District Directors. Final selections were unanimous selections by representatives of the four SBA Districts.  The awards include the following categories.

504 Lender of the Year Award – Chase

This award is presented to the lender that provided the best overall support for the 504 loan program in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.  Finalists included Chase, First Financial Bank and The Huntington National Bank.

Diversity Lender of the Year Award - 1st Source Bank

This award is given to the lender that best supported diverse small businesses including minorities, women, and veterans. Loan volume, dollar amount, the percentage of total SBA loans made, use of the Lender Advantage or Patriot Express programs, and sponsorship of community events are also factors for consideration of this award.  Finalists included The Huntington National Bank, 1st Source Bank and Lake Michigan Financial (Bank of Holland and Bank of Northern Michigan). 

Community Lender of the Year Award - The Community Bank, Zanesville Ohio

This award is presented to a community bank with the best overall performance among community lenders with assets under $1 billion in Indiana, Ohio, and Michigan.  Factors considered were total loan volume, comparison with historical performance, and overall coverage of their service area.  Finalists included The Community Bank, Portage Community Bank, Community First Bank of Indiana and mBank. 

Great Lakes Lenders Conference Lender of the Year Award – The Huntington National Bank

This award is presented to the financial institution that has demonstrated the best overall performance.  Each of the four SBA District Offices nominated The Huntington National Bank for the organization’s commitment to financing small businesses by using SBA loan products throughout Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio.
