About Michigan District Office
The goal of the Michigan District Office is to create an environment within Michigan where small business can grow and prosper. We do this by providing:
-
Free business counseling through the Michigan Small Business and Technology Development Centers, SCORE, Women Business Centers, and U.S. Export Assistance Centers.
-
Government contracting assistance
-
Low-cost training
-
Loan guaranty programs (SBA does not provide grants to individuals to start businesses).
In fiscal 2010, SBA guaranteed 1,406 loans to Michigan small businesses through the 7(a) loan guaranty program for a total of $383.6 million. The number of loans was up by 30% and loan dollars were up by 63% compared to fiscal 2009. Under our 504 program, we approved 208 loans for $95 million. This was an increase of 37% in numbers and 27% in dollars from fiscal 2009. In both programs, the increases in Michigan’s loan activity exceeded those at both the National and Midwest regional levels. Over the past six years SBA has provided guaranties on 16,817 loans worth more than $3.1 billion.
