SYRACUSE, N.Y. – SBA Syracuse District Director Bernard J. Paprocki and Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle (NY-25) hosted a press conference on Monday to announce the details of this year’s Emerging Leaders initiative (e200) for Syracuse-area small businesses.
Since 2008, the e200 Emerging Leaders initiative has helped nearly 1,000 promising small business owners across the country grow their businesses with support, resources and skills to succeed. Syracuse has been selected to host e200 for the second year in a row. The eight-month program offers approximately 100 hours of training per participant and provides the opportunity for small business owners to work with experienced mentors, attend classroom work-sessions and develop connections with their peers, community leaders, and financial communities.
“I am so pleased to announce that SBA has again brought e200 to Syracuse. Small businesses are the backbone of the American economy. We must encourage entrepreneurs and the entrepreneurial spirit because that is the only way our economy is going to get back on track,” said Congresswoman Ann Marie Buerkle.
Jeffrey Steigerwald, president of Liehs & Steigerwald, shared his experience as a graduate of last year’s e200 class: “What the e200 program really does is help you focus in like a laser on your strengths as a business owner. It also can point out weaknesses you may not have realized, which can be just as valuable by learning to manage around those weaknesses. With e200, you get the proven MBA-style curriculum which covers all aspects of running a business.”
“Syracuse small businesses with at least three years in business and annual revenues between $400,000 and $10 million are encouraged to submit a letter of interest to SBA by March 15. We will accept 17 business owners in this year’s class,” explained Bernard J. Paprocki, Syracuse District director.
Local recruitment for the 2012 training started at Monday’s press conference, and interested small business owners are invited to learn more about the initiative.
