BOSTON – Arthur N. Mabbett, President and CEO of Bedford-based Mabbett & Associates, Inc., has been named the U.S. Small Business Administration’s 2012 Massachusetts Small Business Veteran Champion.

The Veteran Small Business Champion Award is presented annually to an individual who has fulfilled a commitment to advancing small business opportunities for U.S. Armed Forces veterans.

Mabbett & Associates, Inc., an environmental, health and safety and sustainable energy consulting and engineering firm was formed in 1980.  Mr. Mabbett is a disabled U.S. Army veteran and prides himself on running a veteran-friendly company and for being an advocate for veterans and veteran-owned businesses.  Mr. Mabbett has worked on legislation related to veteran-owned businesses, has increased business opportunities for veterans and has grown his business and veteran recruitment efforts to a point where almost 40% of the firm’s technical staff are currently U.S. military veterans.

“It’s extremely important to recognize Armed Forces veterans not only for their military service but for their contributions to their communities and the economy,” said SBA Massachusetts Director Robert H. Nelson.  “Arthur Mabbett is a great choice for this award because of his business success, community involvement and his advocacy efforts on behalf of veterans.  Massachusetts is proud to have a winner of this caliber.”

Mr. Mabbett will be honored along with the other Small Business Week 2012 award winners at an event at Fenway Park on June 6, 2012.
