SEATTLE– Marie C. Johns, Deputy Administrator of the U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) will tour Stockbox South Park Grocery in Seattle, Wa., on March 27 at 10:30 a.m. During her visit, Deputy Administrator Johns will highlight the important role of community-focused small businesses in bringing neighborhoods together and helping foster economic growth in underserved areas.

Founded by Carrie Ferrence and Jacqueline Gjurgevich in 2011, Stockbox Neighborhood Grocery is focused on placing micro-grocery stores throughout Seattle urban areas to increase access to fresh produce, essential grocery staples, and good meals. After Stockbox opened a successful prototype store—converting an 8’ x 20’ box into an inviting retail space with over 300 unique items sourced from a co-op distributor and local farms—SBA referred Stockbox to a local lender for help receiving a microloan to purchase equipment for a new, permanent South Park location.

As part of Women’s History Month, Deputy Administrator Johns will also highlight the important role of women-owned small businesses as one of the fastest-growing segments of our economy.
