Michael Wilk is the Deputy Director of the U.S. Small Business Administration’s Philadelphia District Office. As Deputy District Director, Wilk assists in the delivery and management of the Agency’s financial and business development programs throughout the eastern 40 counties of Pennsylvania. From March to May 2012 he was selected as Acting Director for the SBA’s Delaware District Office where he led the transition to a new Director. Additionally, from May to September 2009, he was appointed Acting Director for the SBA’s District Office in the Lower Rio Grande Valley of Texas where he led the District during a Quality Service Review (QSR), conducted a top-down review of the District’s 8(a) program and introduced goaling performance standards a full two years before the Agency adopted a similar standard.
In July of 2012, Wilk retired as a Colonel from the U.S. Air Force Reserve after 30 years of service. His last assignment was with the Defense Logistics Agency (DLA) in Philadelphia. Prior to DLA he commanded the 914th Mission Support Group, Niagara Air Reserve Station, New York and the 514th Mission Support Group, McGuire Air Force Base, New Jersey. In these positions, he was responsible for all support and aerial port services to more than 2,800 Wing Reserve personnel as well as infrastructure responsibility for a 1,000-acre Air Force Base. The Groups he commanded, composed of eight squadrons with over 1,000 personnel assigned, were among the largest mission support organizations in the U.S. Air Force.
Wilk holds a BA in Business from Rutgers College and an MS in Systems Management from the University of Southern California. Commissioned in 1982 through the Rutgers ROTC program, his active-duty military career included a number of combat tours. During Operation Desert Storm, Wilk served as Communications Commander for the 4402nd Reconnaissance Squadron, King Fahad Air Base, Saudi Arabia. Deployed to Iraq from 2010 to 2011, he served as Commander of the Defense Logistics Agency where his duties included supplying all U.S. military forces with food, fuel, spare parts and disposition services within the Iraq Joint Operations Area (IJOA). He was awarded the Defense Meritorious Service Medal upon completion of his deployment.
