May 28 Event Recognizes Eastern Penn., Mid-Atlantic Region Winner


PHILADELPHIA, PA– U.S. Small Business Administration Philadelphia District Director David Dickson will officially introduce Widener University Small Business Development Center as SBA’s Eastern Pennsylvania and Mid-Atlantic Region 2013 SBDC Excellence and Innovation Award winner May 28 at 10 a.m. The event is open to the media.

Founded in 2007, Widener University Small Business Development Center is strongly committed to helping small businesses. One of 18 SBDCs in the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, the center provides free and confidential consulting services to entrepreneurs as well as educational workshops for which a nominal fee is charged. With workshops open to all, consulting services are generally limited to for-profit ventures.


Philadelphia’s NBC10 anchor and consumer reporter Tracy Davidson will present the awards with SBA’s Philadelphia District Director, David Dickson at the annual “SBA Day at the Ballpark” event on June 5. The awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with a luncheon at “Chickie’s & Pete’s” restaurant at 1526 Packer Ave. followed by a 1:05 p.m. Phillies game at nearby Citizens Bank Park. The event is open to the media. This event is co-sponsored by Constant Contact and the U.S. Small Business Administration.


These events are local observances of the annual Presidentially-designated National Small Business Week, which will be held this year June 17-21. National Small Business Week recognizes the small business community’s contribution to the American economy. SBA’s Eastern Pennsylvania small business awards, including the  SBDC Excellence and Innovation award, are awarded to a nominee in Pennsylvania’s eastern 40 counties, while regional winners are selected from the seven districts across the states of Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C. and West Virginia.
