RICHMOND, Va – The U.S. Small Business Administration is hosting training events on the 8(a) Business Development Program in a series of webinars and an in-house workshop during the month of January.
The two-part webinar series, Not Just Contracts: The SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program are scheduled January 15 and January 22 from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m.
The in-house workshop is scheduled January 16 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Richmond District Office located at 400 N. 8th St. Suite 1150, Richmond, Va 23219.
All training will cover:
• Eligibility requirements for 8(a) certification
• Technical assistance available through the 8(a) Program
• Common misconceptions about the 8(a) Program
• The top reasons why an 8(a) application is declined or returned
There is no cost to participate in any event but registration is required for the webinars.
The January 15 webinar will focus on how the 8(a) Program works, eligibility requirements, technical assistance available to small disadvantaged businesses and common myths about the program. The January 22 webinar will cover basic “must have” requirements and the top reasons why an 8(a) application is declined or returned.

The SBA’s 8(a) Business Development Program was created to help small businesses considered to be socially and economically disadvantaged grow their businesses through counseling, training workshops, management advice and technical guidance. The nine-year program also provides these businesses access to government contracting opportunities. During fiscal year 2012, small businesses received more than $15.8 billion in 8(a) contract dollars.
