The U.S. Small Business Administration South Carolina District Office has named William Furman as the new senior area manager of its alternate worksite office in North Charleston, which serves Beaufort, Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, Georgetown, Horry and Jasper counties.

The SBA is a federal agency that offers loan guaranty programs, government contracting programs and counseling services through its network of resource partner organizations. As manager of the alternate worksite, Furman will be responsible for the delivery of these programs throughout the lowcountry and coastal areas, as well as for connecting area business owners and entrepreneurs with resources and training opportunities.

Furman has served in the federal government for 27 years. Prior to joining the SBA, he was an area specialist with the USDA Office of Rural Development, where he was responsible for rural business loan and grant programs throughout the lower half of the state.

“Mr. Furman is going to be a strong addition based on his previous experience assisting businesses and promoting economic development throughout this area,” said Elliott Cooper, district director of the SBA South Carolina District Office. “He will be a great asset to expanding small business in his service area.”

The SBA alternate worksite is located at 5900 Core Avenue in North Charleston and can be reached at 843-225-7430. The SBA’s main South Carolina office is located in downtown Columbia and can be reached at 803-765-5377.
