BOSTON – Mobile Medical Diagnostic Services (MMDS), of Newton, has been named the winner of the 2013 Massachusetts Micro-Enterprise award according to an announcement by Robert Nelson, Massachusetts SBA District Director.
The Micro-Enterprise award is presented annually to an outstanding business that has received SBA assistance and has a three-year track record and five or fewer employees. MMDS was judged on four basic criteria: growth in net worth, sales and number of employees over the last three years, response to adversity, contributions to the community, and demonstrated creativity and/or commitment to a social mission in hiring policy, buying local, etc. The health care company was nominated for this award by Middlesex Savings Bank Vice President Bruce Miccili.
MMDS was founded by R. Scott Grinley in 2006. The company provides diagnostic health care 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to patients who may not otherwise be able to get to a hospital. Using the latest in digital technology, MMDS offers a wide range of diagnostic testing, and final reports are expedited and transmitted in most cases within minutes of being sent to the radiologist. The company now serves 120 different facilities calling for 1,100 studied per month.
Mr. Grinley received his M.Ed, from Boston College, and took advantage of the Massachusetts Small Business Development Center network for help in developing his business plan.
“With this award, SBA recognizes the innovation and flexibility that are on full display with Micro-Enterprises like Mobile Medical Diagnostic Services,” said Nelson. “I hope that by recognizing businesses like this, we can inspire and encourage other small businesses in Massachusetts.”
MMDS and owner R. Scott Grinley will be honored at an SBA awards celebration along with the other 2013 Massachusetts Small Business Week winners in June.
