Plato’s Closet in Exton, Penn., owned by Carol Topolski, is a resale shop specializing in recycling brand-name teen and young adult apparel and accessories for customers looking to sell their trendy, used items or purchase brand-name and designer styles at reduced cost. In 2012 the business was ranked 17th of approximately 360 Plato's Closet franchises across the U.S. and Canada and was recognized as having the largest sales increase across the nation.

“Women-owned small businesses have achieved a lot over recent years and this is a great opportunity to honor the accomplishment of Carol and her team at Plato’s Closet,” said SBA Mid-Atlantic Regional Administrator Natalia Olson-Urtecho. “We’ve seen that women are the fastest growing business owner segment, and in the past year alone have risen by 200,000, an equivalent of nearly 550 new women-owned businesses each day.”

Philadelphia’s NBC10 anchor and consumer reporter Tracy Davidson will present the awards with SBA’s Philadelphia District Director David Dickson at the annual “SBA Day at the Ballpark” event on June 5. The awards ceremony begins at 10 a.m. with a luncheon at “Chickie’s & Pete’s” restaurant at 1526 Packer Ave. followed by a 1:05 p.m. Phillies game at nearby Citizens Bank Park. The event is open to the media. This event is co-sponsored Constant Contact and the U.S. Small Business Administration.

SBA’s Eastern Pennsylvania Woman-Owned Small Business of the Year award winner is selected annually from among nominees located across Pennsylvania’s eastern 40 counties. These events are local observances of the annual Presidentially-designated National Small Business Week, which will be held this year June 17-21. National Small Business Week recognizes the small business community’s contribution to the American economy.
