BOSTON – SCORE Chapter 20, located in the Tip O’Neill federal building in Boston, has been named the 2012 Massachusetts SCORE Chapter of the Year according to an announcement by Robert Nelson, U.S. Small Business Administration Massachusetts District Director.

The SCORE Chapter of the Year award is presented annually to recognize SCORE offices for excellence and innovation in providing training and counseling to clients. SCORE chapters were judged on the following criteria: meets or exceeds the chapter’s goals for long-term counseling and client satisfaction; creates and implements innovative programs; and is acknowledged by the local/regional small business community as an advocate for advancing opportunities for entrepreneurial development. The Boston SCORE chapter was nominated for this award by Judy Wessells, SCORE District Director for Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

While based in Boston’s Tip O’Neill building, Score Chapter 20 has worked hard to expand its outreach, counseling clients in outside locations, including the Constant Contact office in Waltham, Massachusetts and Harvard’s Innovation Lab. They have also introduced networking seminars for in-business clients, and are experimenting with topic-specific seminars at new locations.

“Walking past this SCORE office each day, I can see that these volunteers go above and beyond to provide excellent customer service to the clients that visit them,” said Nelson. “This chapter deserves recognition for its tireless efforts in advising and supporting the entrepreneurs of tomorrow.”

SCORE Chapter 20 will be honored at an SBA awards celebration along with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2012 winners at an event at Fenway Park on June 6, 2012.
