WASHINGTON – Last year small businesses nationwide faced challenges recovering from economic losses caused by disasters like Hurricane Sandy, tornadoes, and the drought that affected much of the continental United States.  All told, 11 disasters in 2012 caused $1 billion or more damages.

There’s much to learn from the rebuilding efforts of businesses in areas struck by disasters in 2012.   Join the U.S. Small Business Administration and Agility Recovery on Tuesday, Jan. 15 at 2 p.m. EST for a free webinar looking at notable disaster events that occurred last year, new trends and technology that support business continuity, and steps your organization can take to prepare for any kind of disaster.

“South Florida is no stranger to the business challenges that follow after a major disaster,” said SBA South Florida District Director Francisco “Pancho” Marrero.  “This webinar will help every small business owner to learn from what other business owners experienced last year and make preparations for 2013’s storm season.”

During the last four years, SBA has partnered with Agility to offer business continuity strategies through its “PrepareMyBusiness” website. Visit http://www.preparemybusiness.org/ to access previous webinars and for additional preparedness tips.

The SBA provides disaster recovery assistance in the form of low-interest loans to homeowners, renters, private nonprofits and businesses of all sizes. To learn more, visit www.sba.gov/disaster.
