BOSTON – Sushil K. Tuli, president and CEO of Leader Bank, has been named the 2012 U.S. Small Business Administration Massachusetts Financial Services Champion.
The Financial Services Champion Award is presented annually to an individual who assists small businesses in obtaining financing either directly or through advocacy efforts to increase the availability of financial services. This nomination package was evaluated using the following criteria: (1) Outside of regular business duties, the amount and quality of assistance given small businesses to obtain financing. (2) Advocacy for changes in the financial services industry to assist small companies. (3) Encouragement of the flow of investment capital to small ventures. (4) Active support for legislative or regulatory action designed to help small firms. (5) Measurable accomplishments through the advocacy efforts of the financial services or accounting industries to advance small business interests.
Mr. Tuli has served as the president and CEO of Leader Bank since its formation in 2002. Under his leadership, the bank has grown from a start-up into a respected organization, maintaining nearly $510 million in assets with a network that includes five full retail branches and two loan production centers. Leader Bank received the “Superior 5-Star” rating from Bauer Financial, the nation’s leading independent bank rating and research firm along with many other prestigious awards.
Leader Bank is an active SBA lender and has been granted Preferred Lender status by the SBA. The bank approved $5 million worth of SBA-backed loans in 2011 and has approved just under $2 million so far in 2012.
“Leader Bank was granted Preferred Lender status which is the highest designation granted by the SBA and is reserved for top tier bank lenders,” said Robert H. Nelson, Massachusetts District Director. “Leader Bank is a rising star in the community banking community because of Mr. Tuli’s innovative leadership.”
Mr. Tuli will be honored along with the other Massachusetts Small Business Week 2012 award winners at an event at Fenway Park on June 6, 2012.
