Veterans invited to free Exploring Business Ownership event

Advisory Date: Thursday, July 11, 2013

MONTPELIER, Vt. – Veterans are invited to attend a free Exploring Business Ownership workshop from 1 to 2:30 p.m. July 24 at the Department of Labor’s Resource Center at 63 Pearl Street in Burlington, Vt.

Exploring Business Ownership is a Small Business Administration seminar to inform people about the basics of starting a small business.

American Veterans own 2.4 million businesses, accounting for 9 percent of all businesses nationwide, and employ more than 5.7 million people, according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

“The SBA wants to help even more veterans start a small business and create jobs in Vermont,” said Chris Herriman, SBA Vermont District Office Veterans Business Officer. “Veterans already possess many of the skills needed, such as commitment and discipline, to run a successful small business, so Veterans who have explored the idea of becoming an entrepreneur should attend the event.”

Veterans will learn about financing options, market research, developing a business plan and the resources available to launch a small business.

To register, call 802-828-4422 ext. 206 or to learn more about opportunities for potential and existing veteran small businesses, visit www.sba.gov/veterans.
