Calvin W. Goings is currently leading a national effort to increase small business outreach and entrepreneurial training by strengthening the services provided at SBA’s 68 field offices, 1,000 Small Business Development Centers, 350 SCORE counseling chapters, and 100 Women’s Business Centers. This effort will ensure that SBA’s field offices and resource partner centers are working in a coordinated manner to share and adopt best practices, reinvigorate marketing and outreach efforts, and increase small business job creation and competitiveness in the global marketplace.
Goings continues leading the Obama Administration’s small business programs and initiatives in the four state northwest region of Alaska, Idaho, Oregon, and Washington. In this capacity Goings promoted nearly $2 Billion in SBA loans and $9 billion in federal procurement contracts.
Before joining the Obama Administration, Goings served in key executive positions with the Washington Credit Union League. As Senior Advisor to the President and the Executive Director of the League’s Foundation, Goings focused on supporting small businesses and emerging markets. Additionally, Goings headed credit union efforts to expand opportunities for women and minority owned businesses, supported new entrepreneurs incorporating sustainable business practices, and led youth financial literacy and small business development outreach efforts.
Prior to his work in the private sector, Goings served in elected office for nearly two decades, at the local level and as a Washington State Senator. During this time, Goings distinguished himself as a strong supporter of community development initiatives, a champion of workforce training and continuing education, and a regional leader in long term economic development planning. Mr. Goings has received numerous awards and citations for his years of public service including the Citation of Leadership Award from the Small Business Incubator, the Distinguished Service Award from the Washington State Patrol Troopers’ Association, the Outstanding Citizen Award from the Washington Jaycees, the Legislator of the Year Award from the Washington Council of Police and Sheriff’s Deputies, the Cascade Stewardship Award from the Cascade Land Conservancy, and Distinguished Alumnus award from Pacific Lutheran University.
