Sacramento, Calif. – The U. S. Small Business Administration (SBA) and the Colorado Small Business Development Center (SBDC) announced today the opening of Business Recovery Centers (BRC) in Estes Park, Greeley, Longmont and Loveland.  The centers are specifically designed to provide key financial and counseling services to businesses impacted by the severe storms, flooding, landslides and mudslides that began September 11, 2013.

“Due to the severe property damage and economic losses caused by the disaster, we want to provide every available service to help get businesses back on their feet,” said SBA’s Regional Administrator Matt Varilek.  “These centers will provide a single, one-stop location for business owners to access a variety of specialized help,” he added.

“Beginning Monday, September 23, SBA customer service representatives (CSRs) and counselors from Small Business Development Centers (SBDC) will be on hand at the following SBA Business Recovery Centers to help businesses impacted by this terrible disaster,” said Varilek.  The centers will be open on the days and times indicated below. According to Varilek, SBA disaster customer service representatives will be available to meet individually with business owners to explain how a low-interest federal SBA disaster loan can help finance their recovery.  “SBA is the federal government’s primary source of money for the long term repair and rebuilding of disaster damages that are not fully covered by insurance or other recoveries.  We will help business owners apply online using our Electronic Loan Application, answer questions about SBA’s disaster loan program, explain the application process and close their approved disaster loans,” he said.  “Business owners don’t need to wait on their insurance to settle or on a contractor’s estimate before seeking SBA financial assistance,” Varilek added.

Colorado SBDC State Director Kelly Manning said, “Our SBDC counselors will provide free counseling on a wide variety of matters designed to help these businesses overcome the effects of the disaster and plan for their future. Services include assessing business economic injury, evaluating the business’s strength, cash flow projections and most importantly, reviewing all options to ensure each business makes decisions that are appropriate for its situation.  They will also help businesses apply for this much needed financial help.”

“We are very pleased that the SBA has responded so swiftly to help meet the needs of our business community.  This highly trained and experienced team of specialists and consultants will be available to provide businesses the services they need to make important decisions about their future operations.  We strongly encourage every business owner who has suffered property damage or economic losses to meet one-on-one with the experts at the BRC,” Manning continued.

Businesses of any size and private, nonprofit organizations may apply to SBA for low-interest disaster loans of up to $2 million to repair or replace damage to real estate, leasehold improvements, machinery and equipment, inventory and other business assets.  These loans cover uninsured losses or situations where the insurance coverage falls short of repair or replacement costs.

For small businesses and most private, nonprofit organizations of any size, SBA offers Economic Injury Disaster Loans (EIDLs) to help meet working capital needs caused by the disaster.  EIDL assistance is available regardless of whether the business suffered any property damage.

Additionally, disaster victims may go online to file an SBA application for disaster loan assistance.  The Electronic Loan Application (ELA) is accessible via SBA’s secure Web site at https://disasterloan.sba.gov/ela.

Business owners who suffered losses from the severe storms, flooding, mudslides and landslides may get help from SBA representatives at any Business Recovery Center or Disaster Recovery Center.  For a location nearest to them, they may contact SBA’s Customer Service Center by calling toll-free (800) 659 2955, e-mail SBA at disastercustomerservice@sba.gov or visit SBA’s Web site at http://www.sba.gov/disaster.  Individuals who are deaf or hard-of-hearing may call (800) 877-8339.

The filing deadline to return applications for property damage is November 14, 2013.  The deadline to return economic injury applications is June 16, 2014.
