Free Computer Security Workshops for Small Business Owners

By CeceliaT, SBA Official

Small businesses around the country can take advantage of free computer security workshops to help strengthen their information security, determine their readiness against security breaches and safeguard their business information from computer attacks. With the growing threat of computer hacking, even against large companies, small businesses should armor themselves.

The series of workshops, designed especially for small business owners, is made possible by a partnership between the SBA, Commerce Department’s National Institute of Standards and Technology, and the Federal Bureau of Investigation’s InfraGard.

What in it for me?

You can learn about the protective tools and techniques used to measure, maintain and guard your information and systems and learn to identify information security vulnerabilities that can put your small businesses at risk. And it’s free.

Protecting your business’ confidential data – stuff like business invoices, payroll records, customer and employee data and other private information – is critical to your company’s success.  A computer failure or other system breach can damage your company’s reputation, expose it to costly recovery expenses, and disrupt your business’ overall operation.

What will I learn?

As a small business owner, you will learn how to protect yourself from intentional attacks or unintentional damage (like from a well-meaning employee), guard yourself from lost productivity caused by security breaches and learn the current technology used to evaluate your security needs.  And you will also learn helpful and practical steps to take to protect your business’ operations.

How do I sign up?

Additional information on the computer security workshops, including local area registration information is all online. Agenda’s for each location will be added.

You can find the nearest computer security workshops to you. Note that locations marked TBD and TBA will be updated online with confirmed dates and times.

Data security is much like insurance it gives you peace of mind, you may not need it right now . This post was edited to remove a link. Please review our Community Best Practices for more information about how best to participate in our online discussions
Thank SBA has helped businesses can be assured of wear and network security. Upcoming situation we will begin work on this.
I think this is extremely useful. It is never fun to have your personal computer hacked and your personal information stolen. However, it is much worse if you own a business. You are no longer just in control of your information; your clients are trusting you with their personal information. Even if you do not plan to take on the IT security role in your firm, it is always helpful to have an idea of the possibilities. This will help you when making business decisions, and it will help you ensure the IT personnel that you are hire are doing all that they can to protect your business information.
its all about security awareness, if you can achieve just a little pinch of this with your "free" workshop i would say its useful.
This type of computer security workshop is needed more than ever to beef up your online/offline business security. Undetectable types of trojan and malware are everywhere wherever you go to the web so it is best to learn as much as you can on how to protect important data from those who want to acquire and mess stuff up.
