Since mobile marketing is at the core of my expertise, and we help clients to be as effective as possible with text messaging, I feel that I can offer simple guidelines regarding “Text Etiquette.” But before I offer my opinion, I am interested in learning from small business owners more about when they feel it is okay to send a text message and when it is not okay. What do you think about setting a policy for text etiquette in your business?

As a business owner, I find mobile marketing is very helpful, however you have to have a sense of when too many texts are too much and in reality hurt what you're trying hard to work for, customers! I think texting is OK for some people. I personally would rather get the text so, I have a printed reminder of what I need to do or answer. I also no others who are against it and say it takes the personal touch or bond with the customer or vendor. I am all for it because it speeds up the business process alot of time. Personally, I would prefer to receive a text that comes in quietly and I can read when I have time rather than receiving a phone call when I am in a meeting, driving, or in some other situation where a phone call would be disruptive. The text needs to be short however. If a great deal of information needs to be communicated, then an email is preferable and, again, much less disruptive.
