I think one of the biggest concerns that is often missed when it comes to flooring especially, is where it is grown. Although Bamboo is preferable because it not only grows faster but also uses less water, if it is being shipped from China...I'd expect a locally grown Pine or Oak, or really anything else would be better for the environment.

Very cool list. Hard leveraging 'green' and 'profitable' sometimes, but it's our obligation to do so.

In terms of bamboo flooring the faster a wood grows, the more sustainable it is especially as the population grows and demand increases. (3 BILLION people in China and India are positioned to begin consuming like 300 million Americans have for the past 40 years! Currently Americans consume 50% of all consumer goods on the planet. It would take 5 planets to meet that consumption need in terms of natural resources.)   If you have any information about sustainable flooring products though I would greatly appreciate the info. I am wondering if in the future bamboo will be used to make imitation hardwood (oak, etc.) floors or are there other non petroleum based products that are in the works?   Thanks so much for checking out the list and be sure to stop back by the blog as I will be listing 200 resources for financing green business from grants to loans and going public.
