Hello everyone. My name is Susan but I go by Sue. My business is fledgling and struggling. I have wanted to fulfill my dream for sometime, now. Despite the obstacles I have been finding in my path, I have not yet given up.
My main business is retailing products from a catalog and a small amount of handcrafted beaded jewelry, (necklaces, bracelets and earrings) usually in matched sets. My catalog items are sold via the web, you can find my web address on my profile page. I also do face to face catalog sales and plan to expand into mail order, home parties and flea market and swap meet type sales, down the road when things pick up a bit. I also have a plan, for when school starts back up, that provides fundraising options for kids that will bring in money for their schools and allow me to make just enough to cover any expenses on my part.
I am disabled and living on SSI benefits. This is also my sole source of funding for starting my business. Needless to say, trying to get even a small business up and going on $606.00 per month after my personal expenses is not an easy thing to do. However, I do not want to spend the rest of my life trying to just survive from day to day on that lousy $606.00. My disability makes it very difficult for me to work in a public environment. I seem to do alright in the one on one situations for selling from my catalog. I plan to have the home parties put on by some friends and family members as well as advertising for a small number of sub-wholesalers to put on the parties and do some catalog sales.
The company I am working with has been in business for more than 60 years. They do dropshipping of my orders, when necessary, and my company name is on the return label. I am not in this to become an overnight millionaire. My goals are modest and attainable. I believe in the products they offer as well as my craftsmanship with my jewelry. It is just getting out there and getting noticed and visible that is the most difficult part. I know that once people see what I have to offer, they will buy from me. As far as my goal for my income, I will be thrilled to make a net income of $250.00 to $300.00 per month to start and build up to a net income of $1250.00 to $2000.00 where I would be comfortable in my life. That is not to say that I would not reach for more if the business showed it had the potential. I can put in up to 70 hours a week of my time. What I am currently seeking out is outside funding to get me up and running.
I came here in the hopes of finding different types of resources from the discussion forums to encouragement when things are difficult. I hope to find some answers as to where to find help, also.
I think I will close for now and prepare a carefully thought out introduction to me, personally. There is a lot to tell and some of it is not pretty. But that is the point I am trying to make; I am ready to turn my life around and become a productive member of society and possibly get to a place where I can help others to reach their goals and realize their dreams. Especially people like myself, who have had some negative history in their life and are finding it truly difficult to prove to themselves and others that they can and have changed for the better. And most of all, that we deserve another chance at having a life to be proud of.
Thank you for reading this, I realize it is a bit long but, I like to be as honest as is reasonable because I want people to see who I really am and appreciate me for just that.
Sue
