I would also reccomend that he (and future new employees) keep a blog related to their own personal learning experience. Not only will it be a daily log and tool of personal development for him, but it can be a resource for others as well. This could even be linked with your business site or within your business site, and provide a valuable resource link for site visitors.

Hello Ksundheim, great to know the you like my suggestion, one more tip i want to give you. If you want to search anything like blog, forums, aricle etc of anything you can serach in this way 1) entrepreneurial + 'inurl:blog' 2) entrepreneurial + 'inurl:forum' 3) entrepreneurial + 'inurl:article', so you will get exactly what you want. In place of entrepreneurial you can put any word which you want to search and in place of blog, forum and article, you can put any type which you want.

I'm under 30 and always like to read bios of the owners of the various business owner blogs and some of the things that, professionally, these people have been able to accomplish before their 30th is amazing to say the least. There is a very informative and productive forum for entrepreneurs based in the UK: entrepreneurforum.co.uk. I think you find it helpful - Its being updated constantly and also its almost spam free. Hope it will help.

It's good that you want the new guy to think like an entrepreneur instead of an employee; obviously 2 very different mindsets. You might want to get him to read some books; I know for many they think that this is a dated concept, but books are still just as relevant as they ever were. There are some really great books out there about running a business, i.e., books on entrepreneurship, sales (very important), marketing, intellectual property, leadership, business management, etc.

Thanks, Jim. I have them on Y Entr and our youngest is going to say hello, but I want him to have more experience. Right now, it is dead here. We have about 15 clients who want to come on right after Holiday (or so we hope), therefore, they should learn more about running a business. After all, I don't want to hire cubicle people, I want thinkers. I also like the fact that I am not giving them the resources; I think it's best that they find them on their own. I love this quote by Jack Welch: 'An organization's ability to learn, and translate that learning into action rapidly, is the ultimate competitive advantage.' I also love this one, as well: 'If you pick the right people and give them the opportunity to spread their wings and put compensation as a carrier behind it you almost don't have to manage them.'
