"Any legal person" in the US as a requirement for starting a Sole Proprietorship for foreigners

Hi I have what is equal to a Sole Proprietorship in my country, but I would
like to start a separate Sole Proprietorship in the U.S. I have understood
that this is possible, but that one - when not living in the US oneself - has
to appoint a "legal person of the US" to be sort of in charge of the company
in the US. Since I do not live in the US, I do not know any "legal persons of
the US" that is more or less suitable/trustworthy than others. Is there any
kind of bureau or similar one can use to satisfy this demand from the US
authorities, or how is this normally done when you are not living in the US?
Thanks
