Any suggestion on how to start a small assisted living program for elderly

I am a RN who works in a rural area. I see the need for  assisted living especially affordable in the area I work in everyday. It is my desire to open a personal care home  and then eventually became to build up to a assisted living facility. In my state you may have up to 3 residents before requiring a license. I would like to  purchase property and have just the three residents while working towards licensure to have more residents. Any suggestions on how this dream can become a reality?

Hi, We have a lot of information on in our "Starting a Business" section, but another approach that may be useful is talking to a mentor who could offer you specific guidance. Another great resource is SCORE, one of SBA's resource partners. SCORE is a nonprofit association comprised of thousands of volunteer business counselors throughout the country. They are trained to serve as advisors and mentors to aspiring entrepreneurs and business owners-at no cost to you! You can find your local office or set up an online meeting to chat with someone about your questions. Visit SBA Direct to find your local SBA resource partners by entering your zip code.

You may want to visit with a counselor at a small business development center or a SCORE office. Their services are free and they can help you develop a business plan and secure the necessary permits. Though you don't need a state license if you have three or less residents, you may need a zoning variance and other local considerations.
