 Hi,I am new to this community and am glad that I joined.  I have pondered the idea of starting a small home based business selling jewelry for about a year now.  Although not written out or properly planned just yet my thoughts are to host demonstrations in my home as well as in potential customers homes, rent booths at events to showcase the jewelry and eventually market and sale online as well.  I'm not sure if this is a business that is allowed by law to be run from my home.  Before I start working on a business plan and obtaining the capital to start and run this business I would like any information that would be beneficial to me.  Thank you

As being said you need to contact first your local zone community and certainly verifying of that kind of business you wish for is allowed or not. (Don’t own and run a business illegal!). Next would be determining your plans and marketing strategy besides of what you've mentioned, they are pretty good but then not enough. Refer to those experienced one in getting useful knowledge and ideas.

A quick call to your local planning and zoning department will tell you whether your city allows a business like you plan to be operated from a home. Also check your homeowner's association covenants. Often, they are more restrictive than zoning, particularly if people will be coming and going from your home and increasing traffic in the neighborhood. You may also want to visit with a counselor at a small business development center or a SCORE office. They can help you write your business plan and get you started the right way.
