With Minority Enterprise Development (MED) Week coming up at the end of August, we thought it would be interesting to share government resources you have found in your community or on the web that help women or minority business owners succeed. Historically women and minority business owners have been underrepresented in the business world, but there are many resources that try to help change that.

I found the Small Business Development Center that provides support with marketing, website, contracts, business formation, etc.

Hi, this website may be useful for small business looking at gov backed financial assistance (part of the About.com information portal) packed with useful info for small business looking for government assistance - the focus is more on small business loans (rather than grants)

What I found useful is SCORE. Online - I have tons of list on that. I use the internet a lot to do in-depth research. Many of the gov, non-profits and even Intl. orgs have info available for free- for anyone- who has the time and willingness to learn.

The Women's Business Centers within a community are an excellent resource partially funded by U.S. Small Business Administration to assist women and/or minority business owners. They are also one of the ESSENTIAL local resources for small business owners.
Each WBC is unique and adapts to the needs of its clients and communities. Staffed with highly qualified individuals and volunteers, the WBCs are there to help with all aspects of your business from start-up to expansion, disaster planning, marketing, finance, exit strategy, human resources, law, to name just a few. The WBCs offer great networking opportunities as well to expand your relationship base to support you and your business.
I highly recommend you check out the WBC in your area to see what wonderful things they have to offer you!

That's a really good resource for new businesses. I do wish there was something more upbeat in the UK!!
