Hello there. I've read in one article that getting backlinks from authority sites such as .edu,.gov or .org sites gives you a realiable facade for google. But don't just abuse all those aforementioned domains. Link but don't spam!

at Business.gov about removing spam. We allow members to include one
link to their site in their signature but that's it. We will remove
any additional links in a member's signature or their post.

reason for this is we want to ensure that the Business.gov Community
maintains high-quality information throughout the site. Nothing
detracts from usable information as much as advertising and link
spamming. The Community is for sharing wisdom and best business
practices, not for improving SEO.
Please help us continue to provide the best information possible from which all our visitors can benefit.

i think edu and gov link doesn't make effect to search engine, ema.

There are a number of backlinking factors Google uses to determine how well your site is ranked
Relevancy of the link - add comment links to relevant blog posts
Link authority - the authority of the site being backlinked from (e.g Youtube - post a video)
Trust - trusted links are .gov and .edu
so you need all these types of links. If you can combine all these factors into one link - great.

I absolutely agree, Google wants the content to be linked naturally and that is what they are promoting..........So we can be sure that if we do some quality backlinks, we are there on #1 page of google.Regarding building links from authority sites, i think still there are manysites which allows building links through commenting

Wow. this is making my head spin. I hope they don't change the factors that determine ranking. this is likely to turn the internet upside down and inside out.
Backlinks are big for SEO and the big thing now is to get EDU and GOV backlinks. They have much more power than many of the thousands of forum profile links some use to get rank higher in Google.

Hi Stuart. Thanks for posting about Wowd. It's an interesting way of ranking pages. Of course, this kind of ranking can be manipulated as well, if it ever becomes mainstream. And sometimes popular does not mean relevant. I'll keep an eye on wowd and how it progresses. Thanks again.
simply going on number of visitors/bounce rate etc seems far too simplistic.
Want to get on Pg 1? buy a bunch of PPC traffic etc. so you get to Pg1 then you'll naturally stay there.
Also, how is a new site ever going to get found? The ones already on Pg 1 will get steady traffic and the ones not will never be able to catch up.
I see potential with the model but I think it'll need to be a lot more comprehensive than that.
Authority sites are a good place to get backlinks. However it's not going to be through forum links that your site will benefit the most. I have registered my account with the intentions of getting some benefits out of this site and only after noticing you allowed links added one to my business. It's a win win :) a link to your site for people who are interested, and continual growth in knowledge from addtional business owners!
in short -- don't focus on forum links only it's not going to make or break you in the search engines.
