Background Searches

I’m trying to do research into how to properly do background searches. As
part of our business, we currently have to run credit reports on companies
and owners of the companies that we deal with. As such, we have access to
credit reporting. As an employer, are we legally allowed to use the credit
bureaus, that we currently have access to, directly or must we go through a
third party to run them. We are already aware of all the disclosures and
notifications that we must get from the potential employee, but cannot find
it written anywhere that we MUST use a third party reporting company, as
opposed to us directly running their credit.
I appreciate any help you can give on the matter.

any requirement that you must use the services of a third party to complete a
credit check. The big issue was the disclosures and notifications to be
certain you are not violating anyone's right to privacy, which can get you in
trouble with the FTC.
