Beginner Home-Based Business Seeking Accounting Advise

Good evening Everyone!
I am in the process of starting my own home-based event/wedding planning business. I am currently employed until I can get on my own two feet and I work in accounting (VERY NEW TO THIS ACCOUNTING THING).
Anyhow, I've familiarized myself with the Quickbooks program and I wanted to know, would that be my best route at this moment as far as handling my accounting matter with my future business?
I cannot afford to hire an accountant at the moment; therefore, I would like a little insight with other new business owners as far as what you are doing with your accounting matters until you can afford to hire a professional accountant.
Look foward to everyone's response!
Sincerely,
Emy
