Hi everyone, this is probably a question that has been asked many times, so I'm sorry if you are sick of hearing it. However I have been told so many different pieces of advice, I simply don't know which way to turn.If you could give me one tip as to which thing to concentrate on first - what would it be?
I don't think that this topic will ever be irritating. So don't be shy to post the question again untill you get satisfactory answers (though not sure if sba.gov would allow you to post similar things again.
Now, its surely the content that is most important. Than it comes about the in site SEO (structure of your site, the technical things, redirects, duplicate titles and so). The last and long term part is Off Site SEO, where it comes about link building, social networking, forum posting etc.
We are using www.abac-bd.com to promote our blog and they are doing exceptionally well so far.

I think that the best way for traffic is through SEO. It might be the longest time to achieve but this is the best source of ongoing traffic and there isn't any substitute for that, not even Facebook.

Yeah, I completely understand that - I suppose the question should have been more specific like "Which areas of SEO should I start on first? Which bring the greatest reward?" Thanks for you reply though, really appreciate your advice.

A good place to start is to make sure you have a great website with interesting and valuable content. Add to your content regularly with either a blog or a news and updates section.
Create a google places page and link that back to your website, encourage your customers to review your google paces page. It looks like local search might be an important aspect for you.
Create a facebook page - ask your customers to "like" your page. Facebook can be a good place to interact with existing and potential guests - additionally Facebook likes (and an active Facebook page) seem to help your search ranking on Bing.
Create an account on Google+ like the facebook page this is also a good place to interact with potential customers.
Appart from all of that, you need to make sure that you do the basics on your website, I noticed that for example you have not mentioned Yorkshire or England on your website or Scotland for that matter. People from outside your country might not search by "Scarborough", they might be considering visiting the North of England or Scotland and if you havent mentioned these words on your website it is unlikely that they will find you.
Other than that - you will have to wait. It takes time to build traffic, be careful that you concentrate on building traffic that is relevant to your website and not just any old traffic. 10 relevant visitors are more valuable than 1,000 non-relevant visitors.

The best way of getting traffic in teh long run is SEO
For instant targeted and quality traffic you can use PPC Techniques such as Google adwords and Microsoft Adcenter to get traffic. That will not upset Google !

I really like the above answer, it holds a lot of value.
If I understand your question correctly, the best way to get "Google Love" is by fresh, relevant content.
After that, the usual SEO comes into play, which encompasses onpage and offpage optimization. These are skills that can be acquired, or you can hire someone who has the skills to do it for you.
Google also loves relevant links, but you can "upset" Google as well with the wrong kind of linking. This is also a subject of it's own.
It all takes time and effort though.
If time is an issue, it might be best to just use PPC such as Google adwords to get traffic. That will not upset Google !
