For homebased business, Quickbooks is the BIBLE. You can enter receipts and pay bills right from the program. You can track individual clients and vendors, manage workers, income, expenses and tax deductions. It is compatible with Excel which allows easy import and export of files. It generates all kinds of financial reports for whatever is needed. I think you will be pleased. It cost about $300.00 but it is well worth the tax deductible cost.
I can't really envision a home based bussiness that woud cross quickbooks boundaries, it's should cover it all & it's cost effective. If you can't afford quickbooks, then you are probably not ready for a bussiness in the first place.
That said, IF for some reason you would want to go for more advanced software, I can reccomend SysPro. with SysPro you can manage any size of comany with many stages of production. It's really tough to setup, but for an advanced user it's actually more intuitive than quckbooks. For a novice it's a steep learning curve though.
Like another poster, I am a fan of Quickbooks. Not only can you keep detailed records, print checks and invoices, but it also creates all the year-end reports you need, both for your records and to use when preparing your tax return.
Quickbooks, Peachtree, and Accpac, are probably the most widely heard of.
However, if you have a small home-based setup running on Microsoft, I would actually recommend going with the Microsoft Office Accounting 2008.
The only advantage MS Accounting offers over the others, is that you are able to fully integrate with the MS Outlook's Business Contact Manager, and Calendar. This is excellent as you can manage your employees, suppliers, customers, and other business contacts more effectively.
If you have a slightly larger set up, then Accpac would be the way to go.
Besides these comments, all of these software are excellent for a home-based business.
I would also recommend QuickBooks. It's by far the most widely used software for small businesses. It has several versions so you can easily find the one that fits your size best.
It's also the easiest software for exchanging files (with your tax accountant or a future bookkeeper), because so many people use it. I would not hesitate to just get started with QuickBooks and stay with them until you outgrow them.
When thought about using some tool there are many which are excellent in performance but some can't afford to buy those tools for small business. So you need to go for an accountant or a free tool to maintain your records.
Through search I came to know about Numia and used it which is a free accountancy service. I thought to try it as demo as it is a free service. I needed to know whether services like this are more trustworthy or not. I have been using Numia for nearly 6 months. It is a good business accounting tool, and really a better way to keep your records more secure.
But it isn't downloadable software. To use the program, you must login to Numia website. It provides basic accounting tools to create invoices, record customer payments, write checks, track expenses, produce customer statements, and generate financial statements.Numia is intuitive and makes everything easy. I appreciated the step-by-step instructions that map out each accounting task. This makes managing finances easier, especially for the beginner who doesn't understand every step in each task.
What ever may be whether it is a tool or a online service I needed my account more secure and should be easy for me to use and also it should be free of cost. So these all needs were satisfied to me by Numia. As an accountant(beginner, intermediate, expert) you would surely never be disappointed in using this Free online accounting service.
