I registered my business with the Secretary of the State (Texas) because it is an LLC, an export and import business. Do i have to get a general license or the registration with the State is already enough?

Be sure to check for local permits and zoning if either are applicable in your case. You don't want to find out one day you're using your property in a non-compliant way and be shut down.   Christine's permit me tool is quite good as I've used it in the past, another good idea would be meeting with represenatives of your local chamber of commerce to find out any local rules or requirements there might be. Even in small areas, many businesses go through the same permitting and startup process, so finding a local individual who has gone through the same things is a good idea.

Hi Alamer,When I registered my business with the Secretary of State (Ohio) I had to apply for The Articles of Incorporation, and an (EIN) number from the Internal Revenue Service. Also, known as 'federal taxpayer identification number or TIN. So that, your business entity can be identified. I also had to apply for a license.Because each state is different, I would suggest you go to business.gov They have information on how to register for a business.

A quick call to your local city clerk's office can tell you if you need a local business license. Some communities license all businesses; others license only a few select business activities, such as day cares and eating establishments. Because you will be importing items, you might also contact your state department of commerce or check their web site and find out if they have an international trade division. If so, you should find numerous resources that will be helpful.
