we do business in various cities in the states of NC, SC, GA, AL, FL we are contract maintenance providers for chain stores. our main office is in FL Do we need an occupational license or tax certificate in each city/county we are doing a job. States don't require a license for our type work but one of our guys was stopped in town in NC by city official and told we must have a city license to work in that town.
I've talked to state officials in NC so far I can't find any info that requires us to have a business license just to do 1 job (unclog toilet or fix lights in sign) in every town we work. any info on how to proceed properly... we have all proper licenses for our 'Florida office but not sure about the doing business out of state requirements
You may need to get licenses from the states and/or cities that you are operating in outside of Florida. Florida, for instance, requires temporary licenses for some out-of-state businesses to operate in Florida (e.g., CPAs or Accounting firms are required to get a temporary license when out-of-state personnel enter Florida for a specific engagement.
