I'm hoping to open a small Etsy business in the next few months and I am trying to fill out the appropriate forms for my location. The problem is I live at Edwards AFB in California and it seems like we are a seperate division. I am trying to figure out how to obtain a business license. Normally this would be filed through city limits, but Edwards itself is not within any city limits. The County I live in is Kern County and that is where I obtained the seller permit. When I called my business permit office and asked where I would obtain a license the lady I spoke to said I did not need a license...but I think she is incorrect. When I went to this website to try to find where to obtain the license, it did not recognize Edwards as a city of Kern County so I could not proceed. I am wondering if there is anyone here who can help me figure this out. Thank you in advance.

Are you perhaps confusing a business license with registering your business name? Most states require businesses to register their name and entity type with the agency that handles such matters, often the secretary of state's office.
Business licenses are issued by cities and counties. Some require all businesses to have a license; others license only a few selected business activies, primarily those that deal directly with public health or safety. If you checked with your local office and they said you don't need a local business license, then you probably don't.
