I don't think it's true, as there are a number of companies with the word Federal in their name. One outstanding example is FedEx (short for Federal Express), the courier company. They have nothing to do with Federal. But yes, you've got to think about the equity the name would create with the U.S., by association. This can be good or it can be bad. The good is that being associated with the U.S. govt., may make it look big and powerful, and may leant it a bit of muscle, but the bad is that it could be associated with bureaucracy and slowness. Same as the word National, or Worldwide, or Global, etc. By using these in names you are creating a certain image, by association with something bigger. So, think about what kind of an impact you want to create.
